Blow Torch and Cushions MERRY CHRISTMAS

Now that the holiday season is behind us I am hoping to have more time to share pieces of our crazy life.  I have two holiday stories that I will catch up on.  It is my sincerest hope that you are not so ready to put this season behind you that you won’t enjoy my blog entries.  I was decorating for Christmas this year and decided to take the Christmas tree clippings outside to my window boxes and decorate them for the festivities.  I went outside and was trying to break off small branches to add to my décor.  I was doing all of this without a coat or gloves on.  It was very cold out and I was becoming more and more frustrated that I was not able to just break the branches apart. This job was quickly becoming more then I was prepared to deal with. I decided that it was in my best interest to put the branches down until I could get outside in the daylight and retrieve my garden clippers from the garage.  Little did I know that this really was all the doing of my guardian angel.  I walked onto my enclosed porch with the intent of going in the house where it was warm, where I was met by my 3&1/2-year-old.  I took one look at his face and my mother’s instinct went into overdrive.  I asked him what the matter was and started to survey the scene before he could stutter an answer out.  What I saw directly behind him was a small fire on the cushion of my wicker chair with my husband’s blow torch lying next to the flames. .  I quickly shoved my son aside while I blew out the flames and threw the cushion out of the porch.  When sharing the story with my husband he was shocked that my son was able to get the blow torch trigger to work since he is often unable to get it started.  OH BOY WHY ME?

Welcome to my life

So it has been a long time since I have posted, and it isn't because things have been quiet here.  Things have been so crazy and busy that I have not had a moment to post.  I have a lot that I am going to try and add in the next few days.

However tonight's blog is all about me.  It has been a busy and stressful couple of weeks and it finally got the better of me tonight.  My wonderful hubby decided he was going to replace my powder room floor a week before we have a house full of company coming for the holidays.  A few things you should know before I go any further is; Last year the week before we had company coming in for the holidays he decided to start construction on our kitchen.  That project is STILL not finished.  We have no molding on our front door because of an emergency project last week AND we needed to finish up sheet rocking a hole that we put in the wall when we removed an unused door.  SO yes we have MANY unfinished projects left to do.  Oh yes we still have to finish a sheet rocking project in our oldest sons room.  Well when he took out the bathroom vanity to do the floor it fell apart.  Now under most conditions this would not be a problem for me.  I hated that vanity and really wanted to replace it.  However the week before Christmas REALLY?  so we spent the better part of my birthday driving around looking for a replacement.  We found one, and it took the rest of my birthday to make it operable.  While my hubby was cleaning up his tools from this project I was painting the sheet rocked over door.  All of a sudden I was stepping down from my stool and found myself standing in the bucket of paint.  While this may seem like a small thing to many of you my life seems to consist of many small Oh Boy Why Me Moments.  I feel blessed to say life is never dull in our house.  LOL

Cat Rosie

Today we did something unconventional that I would like to share.  We painted our new cat Rosie purple and her cat friend Andrew received a nice new coat of blue paint.  Where are the pictures you ask?   Well I would love to share this exciting activity with all of you.  Only we do not have a cat friend named Andrew and we do not have a cat named Rosie.    Out of my son's creative little mind have these little creatures come.  He has created a whole world of play surrounding this make believed cat and her little friend.  I became aware of Rosie when I attempted to do laundry with my laundry basket and was told that it was Rosie's cage.  I had to ask permission to use her cage to do my laundry.  I am wondering how I can use this to avoid, with good reason, ever doing laundry again. I am reminded today why it was a good idea to find new loving homes for the cats we did have at one time.  I hopefully, out of love, have sent them to a world where they will never have to endure being painted by my artistic son. POTTY TIME

As you can see I haven't posted in quite some time.  Dare I say it has been quiet here in regards to the boys. Yikes I really should not have posted that.  We will see what happens now.  I have decided that it is time I start the potty training process with my 23 month old.  Even though the wounds of potty training his brother are still a bit fresh.  I feel it is important for them to get comfortable with their bodies and know what happens when they get that feeling, so I let them run around naked for a little bit.  A practice that makes my husband CRAZY.  He comes home from work and wants to put a diaper on right away. If there is an accident (that I do clean up) he says things like that's what you get for not putting a diaper on him.  My response WHY do we have a carpet shampooer????  Well 2 weekends ago we were getting ready for my brother in law's wedding and my little guy, who was running around nude, started yelling "wawa" at me.  I looked and he had peed, on my makeup bag.  After cleaning it up and washing everything I went downstairs to get my clothes.  As I was coming back my little one was screaming and crying.  I thought it was because I had left.  No I am not narcissistic he has started doing that lately.  When I got up the stairs and tried to calm him down he was sobbing and saying poopo and pointed to a fresh hot pile of stinking poop.  Thank god it was solid enough to clean up without leaving too much of a mess.  My husband's response YOU STILL HAVEN'T PUT A DIAPER ON HIM??? Please wish me luck OH BOY WHY ME?

What did I do to deserve this?

The title of this post may lead the readers (if there are any) to believe that this post is somehow about me.  It really isn't.  It is about my son and his activity today.  Writing this down today is giving me a chance to reflect on the job I am doing as a mom.  I adore my children and would give my life to protect them, so why is that  not enough?  Today started like everyday does, my 3 &1/2 year-old woke me up by slamming his door en route to my bed.  Today was a little earlier then usual and my husband turned the TV on and told him not to wake mommie.  Little did my husband know that I am awake, most mornings, the minute Kyan's hands start turning the door handle in his room.  After watching a little TV we headed downstairs for breakfast.  We played in the house until it was time to head out and get a few things for dinner.  Kyan, Liam and I went upstairs to get clothes for both boys to wear, I grabbed the bathroom garbage can and headed downstairs with a shout out for them to follow me.  I made it downstairs and into the kitchen when I heard a loud thud.  I dropped the garbage can and ran for the stairs.  After taking them two at a time I got to the baby's room as he came waddling out.  I looked in and found his very large heavy IKEA dresser on the ground and could only hear Kyan's screams and cries.  I lifted the dresser off of the floor and yelled for him to crawl out.  He just continued to cry as I watched and waited for him to crawl out.  When he did not crawl out I looked and saw his lower extremities were pinched in the bottom drawer.  I then had to hold the dresser up, while I opened the drawer and pulled him out.  I can NOW talk calmly about this after shedding many tears all day long.  It was at this point that I set about checking his body for broken bones, punctured organs and found nothing.  Except this mark on his head.
I have spent all day worrying and wondering why I could not keep him from getting hurt today.  That is my job to keep my children out of harms way.  It was at this moment I began to realize how helicopter parents are born.  And I beg anyone out there who has been through this and survived with intact children to show me there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and that it is truly worth all the work we do to raise them to adults.  So I sign off tonight with a sincere OH BOY WHY ME?

Nap time or potty time?

Today was a first for me and I thought I would share it here and see if anyone else out there has had this happen.  Today I put my two boys down for their naps.  All went well, they both went down quietly and slept well.  I was able to get some laundry and cleaning done, so I was feeling a bit like a domestic goddess today.  When I went to get my 22 month old up I saw that he was not wearing his pants in his crib.  I then looked on the floor and found his diaper on the floor in front of his crib. My oldest son and I laughed about his naked behind, and then I realized that he also peed in his bed.  YUCK why can't my child be like the animals that will not go to the bathroom where they sleep?  Thank god today I was stripping beds and that I had not just changed them. So into the tub he went and his bed got stripped and cleaned.  Has this happened to you?  OH BOY WHY ME?

PS as you can guess I did not take pictures of my naked son to share with all of you:)

A little help please!

My oldest child is known as a drama queen in our family.  He makes a big deal out of everything and never hesitates to yell for help at the drop of a hat.  While cooking dinner one night this week I hear, in a calm, sweet voice,   "a little help please mommie".  Since it was so calm I said "OK buddy just a minute".  SO I finished up cooking dinner and went to the family room a few minutes later to see what he needed me for.  This is what I found.
My son, who is never patient, had himself stuck upside down on the computer chair and waited patiently for me to help him get down.   OH BOY WHY ME?
