What did I do to deserve this?

The title of this post may lead the readers (if there are any) to believe that this post is somehow about me.  It really isn't.  It is about my son and his activity today.  Writing this down today is giving me a chance to reflect on the job I am doing as a mom.  I adore my children and would give my life to protect them, so why is that  not enough?  Today started like everyday does, my 3 &1/2 year-old woke me up by slamming his door en route to my bed.  Today was a little earlier then usual and my husband turned the TV on and told him not to wake mommie.  Little did my husband know that I am awake, most mornings, the minute Kyan's hands start turning the door handle in his room.  After watching a little TV we headed downstairs for breakfast.  We played in the house until it was time to head out and get a few things for dinner.  Kyan, Liam and I went upstairs to get clothes for both boys to wear, I grabbed the bathroom garbage can and headed downstairs with a shout out for them to follow me.  I made it downstairs and into the kitchen when I heard a loud thud.  I dropped the garbage can and ran for the stairs.  After taking them two at a time I got to the baby's room as he came waddling out.  I looked in and found his very large heavy IKEA dresser on the ground and could only hear Kyan's screams and cries.  I lifted the dresser off of the floor and yelled for him to crawl out.  He just continued to cry as I watched and waited for him to crawl out.  When he did not crawl out I looked and saw his lower extremities were pinched in the bottom drawer.  I then had to hold the dresser up, while I opened the drawer and pulled him out.  I can NOW talk calmly about this after shedding many tears all day long.  It was at this point that I set about checking his body for broken bones, punctured organs and found nothing.  Except this mark on his head.
I have spent all day worrying and wondering why I could not keep him from getting hurt today.  That is my job to keep my children out of harms way.  It was at this moment I began to realize how helicopter parents are born.  And I beg anyone out there who has been through this and survived with intact children to show me there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and that it is truly worth all the work we do to raise them to adults.  So I sign off tonight with a sincere OH BOY WHY ME?

Nap time or potty time?

Today was a first for me and I thought I would share it here and see if anyone else out there has had this happen.  Today I put my two boys down for their naps.  All went well, they both went down quietly and slept well.  I was able to get some laundry and cleaning done, so I was feeling a bit like a domestic goddess today.  When I went to get my 22 month old up I saw that he was not wearing his pants in his crib.  I then looked on the floor and found his diaper on the floor in front of his crib. My oldest son and I laughed about his naked behind, and then I realized that he also peed in his bed.  YUCK why can't my child be like the animals that will not go to the bathroom where they sleep?  Thank god today I was stripping beds and that I had not just changed them. So into the tub he went and his bed got stripped and cleaned.  Has this happened to you?  OH BOY WHY ME?

PS as you can guess I did not take pictures of my naked son to share with all of you:)

A little help please!

My oldest child is known as a drama queen in our family.  He makes a big deal out of everything and never hesitates to yell for help at the drop of a hat.  While cooking dinner one night this week I hear, in a calm, sweet voice,   "a little help please mommie".  Since it was so calm I said "OK buddy just a minute".  SO I finished up cooking dinner and went to the family room a few minutes later to see what he needed me for.  This is what I found.
My son, who is never patient, had himself stuck upside down on the computer chair and waited patiently for me to help him get down.   OH BOY WHY ME?

Do you think I need adult time?

So I had a funny lunch moment today that I thought I would share.  This is for any mom out there that feels like the line between being a mom and being a woman is so far apart.  I was making lunch for my boys today and decided to actually make myself lunch and eat with the kids.  So I made grilled cheese sandwiches for everyone and after fixing plates for the boys I set out to fix my plate.  And this is what I did to my sandwich.
Yup I probably haven't had my sandwich cut into fours in 25 yrs.  After I cut it I just laughed and realized I am in need of some adult time.

Like Nannie's arm

This morning my son wanted breakfast.  When I asked him what it was he wanted for breakfast he stated yogurt.  Of course he always wants it when I don't have any left.  So imagine my feelings of good fortune when I opened the fridge and found we still had some.  I opened the container to find mold growing on it.  So I said "buddy we can't have any yogurt this morning there is mold on it".  His response "mold like on Nannie's arm?"  When I finally stopped laughing I had to explain that mold and mole are not the same thing.  OH BOY Y ME?

Future Painter

Two years ago we moved to a bigger house in a new town and have slowly be redecorating or updating every room.  I finally decided that I could not look at the lemon yellow in my upstairs hallway another day.  Having lots of paint left over from our old house I picked the paint we had used from the nursery.  It was called Custard (yes I know yellow to a yellow).  The change softens the color and makes it look like, well, custard.  So I put my boys down for a nap and went to work, painting in sections.  I carefully removed all of the pictures off of the wall so I could put them back up without a problem.  I finished painting and took my paint supplies downstairs so little children (my 3-year-old) could not get into it.  After cleaning up the roller and putting the paint back I went upstairs to inspect my work.  I found that my budding painter had taken a clean roller, rolled it onto the wet walls and proceeded to paint one of his new shirts and a brand new pair of men's dress paints, with a retail price of $80.00.  He also painted one of my wall pictures.  I am sad to say I did not get a picture of the of the wall picture, but I was able to capture the clothing.  Enjoy!                          OH BOY WHY ME?

Breakfast Anyone?

Yesterday morning I was in bed sleeping when Kyan decided he wanted breakfast and apparently was going to do it by himself.  I woke up to my 3&1/2-year-old saying "mommie I am cooking breakfast".  Now you need to know this statement did not alarm me, because this is pretend play that we do.  He cooks me breakfast, lunch or dinner in his play kitchen.  So I naturally went along with our game.  "Oh what are you cooking for breakfast."  It was his replay that caused the panic feeling and me racing down the stairs.  "I am cooking toast in the toaster oven."  You see he doesn't have a pretend toaster oven.  Sure enough I reached the kitchen and this is what I found.

This would be the bag of bread that he was not able to open, so he ripped the bag to get into it.

And this was the bread in the toaster oven, turned on for 20 minutes.  YIKES I am so glad he was proud of  this and came to share it with me.  The toaster oven is getting unplugged every night now.                           OH BOY WHY ME:)
